Ascend Performance Collagen Protein Explained: What’s Inside Each Serve?

When you compare protein powders, the number on the front of the tub is only part of the story. The protein source, ingredient list and serving size help explain what you are actually buying.
Ascend Performance Protein uses hydrolysed bovine collagen and includes PEPTINEX®, TENDOFORTE®, added tryptophan and LAB4 Probiotics™. Here is how to read the supplied label.
What Does Hydrolysed Collagen Mean?
Hydrolysis breaks collagen into smaller peptide chains. “Hydrolysed collagen” and “collagen peptides” describe this general type of ingredient.
The collagen in this product is bovine, so it is animal-derived. It is not a plant protein and does not suit a vegan or vegetarian diet.
How Much Protein Is in a Serve?
The supplied label uses a 33g serving size and lists 25.08g protein. That is approximately 25g protein in a serving of powder.
It also lists 127.47 calories, 2.42g total carbohydrates, 0.65g sugar and 1.81g fat per serve. Those values are for the powder; adding another beverage or mixing it into food changes the finished serving.
The package shown lists 27 serves. Check your selected tub because serving counts and nutrition can differ across versions and flavours.
Why Does the Label Say 28g of Collagen Blend?
The PEPTINEX® / TENDOFORTE® line lists 28g per serve. That is the amount of the combined ingredient blend, not a second declaration of total protein.
The nutrition row remains 25.08g protein per serve. Use that row when tracking protein intake. Do not add the two figures together or describe the product as containing 28g of nutritional protein on the basis of the blend line.
What Else Is in the Formula?
The photographed ingredient list includes natural flavours, MCT oil powder, cocoa, xanthan gum, tryptophan, sucralose and LAB4 alongside the collagen ingredients.
This also explains why a flavoured collagen shake is different from a tub of unflavoured pure collagen powder. The whole formula includes more than its protein source.
What Are LAB4 Probiotics?
LAB4 Probiotics™ is the blend named on the panel. The supplied label declares 30 billion CFU per serve.
CFU means colony-forming units. Treat the number as a label declaration rather than a promise that the product will produce a particular digestive outcome for you.
How Should You Mix It?
The supplied directions say to mix one heaped scoop, approximately 33g, in 250–500mL water or your preferred beverage. A smaller liquid volume makes a thicker drink; a larger volume makes it lighter.
Start with the label directions and choose a method you will use consistently. Water is the straightforward option when you want to keep the finished drink dairy free.
Is It the Right Protein Powder for You?
Start with your priorities: the protein source you want, dietary preferences, nutrition per serve and how you plan to use the powder.
