What is the difference between Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) and Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC)?

Whey is originally derived from cow’s milk and is an exceptionally high-quality source of protein. The ultimate difference between WPI and WPC is the degree of filtration and processing it undergoes! Whey Protein Isolate undergoes a much greater filtration process than that of Whey Protein Concentrate. WPI is sifted through super-duper small filters, much smaller than those used to filter Whey Protein Concentrate. So, what does this mean?

As a result, Whey Protein Concentrate contains…

  • 80% protein per weight
  • 5-7% Milk Fat
  • Moderate amount of lactose
  • 5-10 calories more than WPI

Whereas Whey Protein Isolate contains…

  • 90% protein per weight
  • 1-2% Milk Fat
  • Pretty much zero lactose!
  • 5-10 calories less than WPC

However, due to the extensive filtering used to formulate WPI, it does have a higher price point by a few dollars.
